Medication Management
This capstone project, born from personal experience in managing my grandfather's medication regimen, focuses on developing an app to tackle widespread medication management issues like missed or incorrect doses. It's designed to streamline the process of tracking multiple medications, aiming to reduce errors and improve health outcomes for people.

the challenge
Patients and caregivers face challenges with managing medications due to the risk of missed doses, incorrect dosages, and potential adverse reactions. There is a need for a solution that aims to enhance accuracy, safety, and ease in medication management processes, thereby improving health outcomes and reducing the cognitive load on caregivers and patients alike.
The solution
Mediseen offers features for patients to manage medications, schedule reminders, share information with caregivers, and consult a detailed medication directory covering usage, side effects, precautions, and interactions of medications a patient is prescribed. Aimed at enhancing adherence and safety, this app addresses the complexities of medication schedules for individuals and caregivers, providing a streamlined, informative, and user-centric solution to navigate the challenges of medication management effectively.
solution 1

Share all your medications with your Medifriends so they can help you stay on track and up-to-date.
Diving into the process
desk research
Understanding medication errors
To gather a better understanding of the challenges faced due to medication errors, I studied various research papers and publications online. I was surprised at learning how common medication errors are.
9000
Americans lose their lives each year due to errors in managing their medications. This statistic underscores the vital need for precise management to reduce risks and prevent such tragedies.
1.3 million
people injured in the US each year and at least one death every day due to medication errors according to The World Health Organization (WHO).
$42 billion
spent each year on patients affected by medication errors. This includes costs associated with additional medical treatments required to address such errors.
50%
of harm caused by medication errors is preventable according to The World Health Organization (WHO). This insight is particularly relevant to home care.
Competitive analysis
User survey
Key Insights gathered from user survey:
01
81.5% were currently taking medications
03
45.7% experienced medication complications
02
80% did not consult a doctor before buying OTC medicines.
User interviews
01
Participants wanted to know the composition of a medicine.
03
Wanted to get reminded of when their medicines were getting over.
02
Most participants wrote their schedules on paper to keep track of their dose and timings.
problem statement
Busy working professionals and seniors need an easy and reliable method to manage and track their medications to reduce medication errors caused by missed medications, wrong doses and side-effects.
User Personas
Understanding our users
Now it was time to think about who were were designing for. Through user interviews, we identified two demographics of users.
busy professionals
The primary persona includes busy working professionals around the age of 30. They face issues with missed doses due to a busy schedule.
seniors
The secondary persona includes users who are over 50 years of age. They may not be very tech savvy to use applications and hence rely on others to remind them of their medications
user flow
Building the user flow
By this stage, the I had a thorough understanding of our users, their problems and goals. I combined user goals and needs to create a user flow defining the steps a user would take through the app to accomplish their goal of adding a medicine.
sketching
Visualizing the solution
I use pencil and paper to sketch out some concepts for the app and presented these designs to 5 users that surveyed. Based on the feedback, I was able to come up with these designs.
